I have an 09 F-350 that came with the tailgate step and handle. I am planning on installing a Hinton gorilla slide in the bed of the truck. With the tailgate open, the handle thing sticks above the bottom of the bed. It also makes it so I can't close the tailgate when I have it loaded up with 8' 2x4's. Is it possible to remove the handle to get the backside of tailgate to be flatter? I haven't taken it apart yet, wondering if anyone here has opened one up yet. I also have the back-up camera in the handle if that matters.

Anyone have a truck without the handle that can look and see if the tailgate sat below the bed of the truck when opened?

I pulled the handle to get the liner off my 08 tailgate to add a camera handle.

its only one bolt, with a torx head.. but I was able to close my gate with a stack of 4x8 plywood..

you can remove the handle to make it flatter if you wish, but the mounting area for the handle still sticks up a bit..

it cant be made as flat as a non-step gate if thats what you need..

p.s. if you wanna get rid of that handle i know someone that might buy it, wink wink..
