2011 EGT and IBC questions

I got the copies of the Owner's Manual and Diesel Supplements for the 2011 Superduties.

From the owner's manual, one of the info center messages is:
"STOP SAFELY NOW (Diesel engine only).
Displayed and a chime sounds when the vehicle exhaust system temperature exceeds intended operating range. If this warning occurs, engine power is reduced and the engine will shut down when the vehicle speed is below 3 mph (5 km/h)"

Question: Does that mean they are installing a thermocouple that could be used for a pyrometer in the exhaust

and in the Driver's programming for the info center, it has the option to choose the type of trailer brakes:
"Press RESET to choose: ELECTRIC or EOH (Electric over hydrolic)

Question: What changes between the two choices in the brake strategies?

The previous generation 6.4 has a pyrometer, so I would think the 6.7 will as well.

As for the brake controller, I think the only issue they had with EOH brakes was in the circuit test function, which is how they determined if brakes were present. So my guess is that they change how they test for continuity when you select EOH versus EL brakes.

There are FOUR thermocouples in the exhaust system of the 6.7L that are used by the PCM to monitor system operation. I don't see how you could use any of these for a separate gauge setup without interfering with the normal operation of the electronics.

Thanks, guys. I wasn't aware of the pyros on the 6.4L.

Since you can't monitor the pyros, I guess that means the truck leaves you guessing what happened when you are towing heavy up a hill and all of sudden the power goes away.

I wonder if they put any of the pyro info out through the OBD II port or would you have to install another thermocouple for your own gauge set?

I think it is a good investment to put after market gauges on to monitor the functions of the engine. Like egts, fuel pressure and transmission temps... JMHO

I had the Edge Insight CTS on my '10. It was great to see Tranny, Oil, Coolant, and EG temps in one nice compact screen. It was so nice being able to see what was actually going on while towing in the hills. Not available on the '11s yet

There are guys using the DashDaq on the 6.7 already. I don't think it's fully functional, but it works.
