Fuel filter replacement- I broke the retaining clips
I just changed the filter on my 07 expedition. I tried to be careful when lifting the both the blue pin and red pin on the double line side of the filter. As you probably know, the filter sits sideways making access to the retaining clips very difficult. I did manage to remove all the clips but broke the both in the process. I put them back in upon reinstallation of the new filter. One side of the clips are missing. Do I need to get new ones or do you think they will remain in place.,
Also on the outlet side. the metal clip was not quite in place on my first try. Fuel sprayed out as I started the vehicle up. I re-engaged the primary clamp with the special tool to reseat the line. The metal bracket or (clamp) had to be reseated to stop the leak.

I stopped by the Dealership today on an unrelated matter. I spoke with a mechanic that I deal with. Told him about the clips breaking (red and blue). He said this happens all the time, especially when non-dealer facilities such as quickly lube places. The trucks end up in the shop by tow trucks. The fuel lines come off and needs to be completely replaced. You cant just buy the flimsly clips.
Since the clips operate in conjuction with other plastic keepers, I was thinking of just using tie wraps or other devices to keep the secondary clip from disengaging which may allow the fuel line to come off.
Any advice?
Thanks,
