1952 FORD F2 rear end gear ratio
Hi All, I new to this sight but I'm all wound up because I just bought a 1952 Ford F2 with the 6 cyl and 3 speed on the floor. The old truck is in pretty nice shape for it's age. At the moment the clutch is stuck so I got to try and figure out a way to free it. Any idea's? I was also wondering if anyone could tell me what the gears in the rear end would be. I know they are going to be low. I was thinking of changing the rear end. Can anyone tell me what might fight right in and what a good gear would be. Does anyone know of front hubs a person could use to go to the 5 bolt wheels. Thanks in advance and I look forward to meeting all of you. Have a good one, Dennis

Welcome to the board, it's nice to see another bigger truck owner.
For the clutch you could try a couple of things. First, if it's not too stuck you might be able to tow the truck around and pop the clutch pedal a few times. If it's really stuck you could open the access plate in the clutch bellhousing and soak the pressure plate with water. One of our member suggested doing this with stuck brakes so if it works for brakes it might work for the pressure plate.
For the rear axle you could swap out a newer rear axle from a newer pre-'73 F-250 if you want to keep the same bolt pattern. The front axle has the same spindle as the F-1 so you could get by with swapping out the backing plates from a F-1 or you could buy a disc brake conversion kit for a F-1 and install disc brakes.
If you change the front to a five bolt pattern and not the rear you're going to have carry two different spares. It would just be easier to keep it all 3/4 ton, IMO.

I forgot who said they did the water trick with the brakes but I would think it would break down the brake/clutch material or maybe it would make it soft enough that it would separate. Either way I don't think it does any good for the material, it just allows you to get it separated so you can get at and work on it.
