In years past one could usually spec out smaller diameter wheels/tires on an F-150 and lose a couple of inches of height (shades of the F-100) but I suppose that avenue's unavailable now due to disk brake caliper assembly clearances, etc.

Thanks again for the response.
Maybe this is a dumb question but if you carry handicappers around, might you consider something like a van or minivan instead of a pickup?

That said, a lowered pickup WILL absolutely handle better if you have matched spring rates front and back...look at the NASCAR trucks--they run pretty low. In the old days, you could actually reach over the sides of the bed and load/unload things without needing a ladder. Seems like today's trucks are designed to be intimidating for those people who need to "wear" a tall and macho vehicle. I hate the look of a foot of air above the rear tires where you see the inside sides of the bed and stuff.

If you are offroading, you need high ground clearance... On the street, not so much.

No such thing as a "dumb" question, IMO. We have an 8 passenger E-150 for out-of-town trips, but around town it's mileage is terrible. We are looking to replace our in town wheels, a 2001 Sport Trac, with something lockable but just as useful. So of course that means we'll need something that will take a locking tonneau cover and has entry points low enough to the ground for our purposes, but we'll still be able to take the bed cover off once in a while and be able to haul something that sticks up. Agree about the ridiculous "air view" thing above the rear wheels of many new PU's. That's what I'm trying to overcome.

Thanks, too, for the matching spring rate tip. No off-roading intended.

I installed the 2" lowering shackles soon after buying my truck. No difference I can tell in ride or handling. Truck looks a whole lot better w/o the rear sticking up. That's my individual preference, and I'm sticking to it! I have been very pleased with my truck with no problems save the slip yoke TSB (which worked on my truck).

33,000 miles and rollling.

Thank you. That's encouraging. Looking better and better. If I go through with I'll come back here and post the results.
