What is it?
Bought a rear end from a wrecking yard.
Is supposed to be a 1971-73 Mustang read end.
Has the right width and bolt patern....
Has the following numbers cast into the differential housing (the webbed portion holding the gears that can be removed from the main axle housing)
B4 or 64
D28W
4688A or 4888A
2F10
What does any of that mean?
Thanks,

The only info you posted refers to the Plant(foundry) it was built at,
Date it was built, and other more or less useless info.
Here is a site that may help.
On the bottom left of the Buck tag that should be attached to the diff should be the ratio and ring gear size.

Diff. out of a 1972 Mustang should be a 9" Ford. From the front of the center section (hog head assembly): could you remove all the nuts with a ratchet & socket, except for one? If so, it is a 9".
If all nuts on the hog head can be removed with a socket & ratchet--then it is an 8".

He's talking about the very bottom nut of the pumpkin. The angle is too much for a socket so you have to use an end wrench. The nut just to the left of it is often hard to get a socket on as well. At first glance the 8" and 9" look alike. 8" units were used on a lot of Mustangs as well.
