Today, I replaced the parking/turn signal housings on my 01' and put the clear 03' housings in. Easy swap. However, I noticed that my front bumper was uneven. I could slide my fingers completely under the housing on the left but not the right. Then when I looked at the front bumper from the sides, the right one does sit higher. Truck has never been in an accident or even bumped an object hard enough to move that giant bumper. I never noticed it before replacing the lamp housings.
Didn't really pay attention to mine when it was new, and the bumper came off 10 minutes later to put the plow on.
If it's any consolation, they are very easy to adjust with only the 4 bolts out front.
Is it easy to just "bump" the bumper out of place? Reason I ask, I picked it up from the dealer today (warranty work) and I replaced the lamp housings right after that. I really dont think the bumper was uneven, but not 100% sure. I found no evidence of the fron end/bumper striking anything???
I am assuming that it would take quite a hit to move the bumper and some evidence would be present. Any more thoughts?
Before you adjust make sure that the truck is sitting on a level spot. I've noticed with mine when the truck sits on a twisted parking spot the gaps change between the lights and the bumpers. I took notice to this even before I put the body lift on. I guess it's just the way the truck twists, nothing to worry about.
I moved the truck to a confirmed level spot and the gap difference is still present. Are the four bolts for adjustment the ones right near the front tow hooks? Its strange, but from straight on, its not really noticeable, but from the sides it is. I just wonder if the dealership ran into something. Thats why I am curious about how hard an impact is needed to move the bumper. But, there is no evidence of a bump, ding, scratch, etc. I dont want too much time to go by, if it was their doing!
I just cant believe that I never noticed this before, especially when shining the bumper!
Im not saying this happened, but it doesn't neceassarily have to be the bumper that was hit.
If the frame was tweaked, it would throw off your bumer also, remeber the bumper mounts to the frame rails, and more or less can move independently from the body.
But yes the bumper is easy to adjust, even easier if you have someone t hold it while you move it around.
My 10 year old daughter helped me when I put mine back on after my body lift install.
Mine is crooked too. It has been that way since the day I bought it (brand new). The right side is about .5 in. lower the the left. It isn't something I'm gonna lose sleep over and I'm sure its gonna get alot more crooked in the years to come.
Mine was crooked too, found out the same way when I rlaced the turn signal housings. If you loosen all four bolts next to the tow hooks the bumper will drop to its lowest position then you can adjust from there.
Don't forget there is two other bolts that I loosened before leveling off the bumper. There are 1 on each side inside the wheel well on the bracket holding the side of the bumper!
Thanks for the input and the how to's! Sounds like the uneven bumper is not that uncommon. It was probably like that before I took it to the dealer. I will even it up when I get some spare time.
