5.4l v8 triton

hey i have a 2006 f250 5.4l v8 triton, i have no engine mods yet but am looking for them. so my question is what do you guys think i should buy overall to help "beef up" my motor? and what do you think should be my first purchase? i am looking for faster acceleration, 0-60, and throttle responce etc. and im not rle worried about fuel economy altho it wouldnt hurt. thank you for the time <!-- / message --><!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig --><!-- END TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig -->

You can search the forums for thread about this, you asked a pretty common question. In fact it is so common there should probably be a sticky about it (hint hint). I guess the question you need to ask yourself how far do you want to go with your mods? Rather, how much money you want to spend. As for basics mods the consensus seems to be that gears are the best bang for your buck. Most people seem to say 4.10's or bust, and some even go as high as 4.56. Other common mods include a programmer (most will recommend the Edge Evolution), Exhaust (many but not all prefer Magnaflow) and a Cold Air Intake (again many but not all prefer Volant). If you want to go beyond that, get your wallet ready. If I missed something someone else will chime in.

yep

4.56 gears will be the 2nd thing you can do after a supercharger...especially in terms of bang for the buck.

4.56 gears will make your truck feel like it gained 30 HP (even though it didn't)

A supercharger first like he said.

Amazing how sweet an F150 feels on boost !

Supercharger from Roush right now @ $2350 for +112 HP, $4300 for +145 up

Gears run about $500-700 per axle installed...so about $1400-1500 unless you live in a really expensive area

Honestly, I'd recommend the gears + a programmer. I love my Supercharger, but they aren't for everyone. Extremely fun though.

Setting up the diffs would actually be harder than a SC install.

I found the install was very easy.

With diffs, how much experience do you have with setting clearances, how deep th pinion runs on the crown, backlash, etc.

Diffs are not a good place to start learning to wrench IMO.

And besides, gears are not going to actual increase the HP, just make you lower geared.
And unless you went to some insanely low gears, you will never come close to the acceleration that boost will give you.
Further more, when on a HWY trip it will now be screaming along at high revs to cruise at say 80 MPH.

I for 1 would vote for boost, long before gears.

Get gears if you plan to put on crazy tall tires, otherwise no.

just curious is this for a F150 or a F250 cause i dont think the 250's are able to get a supercharger package without some modifications (it is possible but i haven't seen a kit set up for just those trucks). since this is the F150 section i just wanted to ask.

I assumed it was an F150 we were talking about, since it was posted in the F 150 section.....hmmmmmmmm

yeah. i figure it is a f150 too and i was gonna give my two cents on this subject then i noticed the 250 part so i wanted to ask and see if it was just a typo or place in the wrong section first.

F-250 has the same motor..but different airbox and ECM stuff

so yeah, you could make a supercharger work, but it would cost a pretty penny or 2 to make it run right and get any custom fab done

thought we were talking about a F-150 as well. btw, @ Saleenguy, I was recommending gears/tuner over a Supercharger based on the best bang for the buck (normal priced blowers...not the ones on sale). not install hardness....and later on gears are a nice supplement to a blower if they aren't enough

yes its for an f250, i at first placed it on the superduty forum but didnt get to many replies and had the suggestion to place the thread also on the f150 section, to see what kind of ideas i could get...

and yes im tryng to find one for an f250, but do u guys know how much refab work etc. would have to be done in order to get the SC to work right/ fit?

or do you know of where i could get a turbo/ TT. i really would rather have a SC cause i prefer the more immediate boost a SC gives you over turbo lag. but then again i am not very knowledgable on the subject of turbos/ superchargers etc.

to be honest, I'd just get another truck. I know it's debbie downerish to say, but you are grasping at a wild dream.

A supercharger designed for the 5.4 3v F-150 should bolt to your truck motor just fine. After that though, you are gonna be fabbing and custom tuning alot. Not novice work, and any good speed shop is gonna charge an arm/leg for the labor
