16" rims on 79 F250 4wd, disc's....

I had some AR baja wheels that I test fitted on my truck this evening.....just letting everyone know that they fit. I heard ford did 16.5's becasue that's what was needed to clear the brakes. Anyway I might have found a good deal on some big radials in 16" so i'm glad to see the 16" rims will work.

i have 16s on my truck and it has a 78 d60 under the front and they fit fine. no grinding on the calipers or anything. the truck came to me with later 16x7s on it and they fit good too.

16's usually fit 4x4s just fine. The door sticker on my 78 F250 with the Dana 60 in the front lists it as originally 16.5 wheels but the wheels that were on it when I got it had the Ford stamp on it and they were 16's.

In my experience its only the F350 2wd that has the larger Dayton calipers that needs 16.5" wheels to clear them.

I have a '76 F250 with the Dana 44/discs and cannot fit 16's without grinding. I have about 3/8" +/- clearance with the 16.5" rims I have now. I've tried 2 different sets of 16's on my truck and wasn't able to make either work.

I have a '76 F350 crew cab 2wd that I decided to ditch the 16.5" split rims and put newer steel 16" Ford rims on and they clear the front calipers just fine.

It is close though...the rims have those stick on wheel weights for balancing on the inside of the rim...and those did interfere with the caliper. using 16" rims would necessitate going to the old-school wheel weights that go on the lip of the rim.

I'm also bummed because the big radials I wanted are sold. I shoudl've test fitted those rims sooner! (i have 16.5's on the truck now and didn't know if the 16's would fit until yesterday...you snooze you loose.)

I run 15" rims on a 4x4 F350 (79 F350). Notice 8 lug centers.......

Are those even around the calipers? There's a ton of offset in those rims.

16" rims are the way to go, especially with 37" Baja Claw Radials

My '79 came with 16s when I changed to 16.5s one rim was just a bit different and wouldn't clear the caliper
