I have a 97 F150 4x4 4.6L, The transfer case seems to be stuck in Low range ONLY not 4Low, It goes in and out of 4 wheel drive fine, 4x4 works great, but it is stuck in low range in the transfer case. Is only a shift motor what controls this or is there more to it and how can I test and fix this problem?

I would agree with that. My truck is the old manual shifter but from I have read here the shift motors do go faulty. Sometimes a thump with a hammer is all that is needed. Also I believe it is possible to remove the motor and shift the trans into High by hand. However go up from here a bit to the `97 F-Series page and click on "search this forum" and do a search for "shift actuator" and you should get plenty of information.
