Headlights work, but no markers, gauges etc?

As of late my truck has developed a problem- occasionally, when I switch on the headlights, the headlights will come on, but the marker lights, taillights, and gauge lighting will not work.

I believe it is being caused by the headlight switch, because if I pull it to about halfway before the marker lights would come on, or halfway between the headlights coming on after the marker lights are on, all the other lights will work, but the headlights don't come on until the switch is fully pulled out, and then all those other lights go off.

Am I correct?

No necessarily so. The marker lights are not powered from the same source as the headlights. They have their own seperate fused power source from the fuse box. The reason they work for an instant when pulling the switch out, and pulling the switch halfway out, is you are putting the switch in a position that is not normal, and this bridges some of the contacts in the switch together, so the power source for the headlights which is still good, jumps over onto the contacts for the running lights.

The first thing to check is the fuse for the running lights to make sure it's good. The next thing to do is pull the headlight switch and inspect the tan/white wire. This is the power wire for the running light part of the switch, and this wire is famous for overheating and burning in two.
