Hi Guys,Got in my truck today and started it,turned the headlights on and it killed the engine,so I got out to look at the headlights and noticed the passenger side headlight was dull and the markerlights were not on,so I wiggled the plug on the headlight and the headlight went out and the marker light came on,can some please tell me whats up,the truck will run with just the marker lights on, but if you pull the switch all the way so the headlights come on it kills the engine.Im thinking maybe the headlight plug is bad. Please help.
With the engine off and the switch on, the drivers side headlights and markers work fine, but the passenger side headlight is dull and the marker lights wont work, but if I wiggle the plug the marker lights will come on and the dull headlight goes out! so I dont think it has anything to do with the alternator since the one side works perfectly.
The wiggling fuse part and the lights killing the engine part sound wierd. The lights killing the engine definitely COULD be the Alt but the other issues seem like simple corroded/loose connections.
wiggling the plug on the headlight and making the parking light go on and headlight out sounds like a bad connection at the light, most likely a ground.
as for the lights killing the engine,
using a volt meter, see what the voltage is at the battery. with engine running you want over 12.5 volts minimum with all accessories running. with everything electrical off you want to see between 13 and 14.5 volts.
