Thumbs down Need help!! Battery cables - where can I find them??

Hey guys, I am at the dealer right now and they are telling me Ford doesn't make battery cables for my 97 Explorer 5.0 any more and NAPA/AUTOZONE doesn't carry them either. Just tried Rockauto.com and they don't have them. They are telling me i'll just have to live with it and maybe just replace the terminals. You guys may know where I can find them..... any ideas? I find it hard to believe that no one makes basic battery cables for my very common truck. Corrosion has eaten through so much of the cable and even the plastic sheath that covers it...

What? This is silly. Usually you'd just measure how long and remember what both sides look like and go buy a set.

Last I knew they stopped making the "Red" colored ones. I thought that was dumb.

Good luck! Battery cables are a common thing to be replaced!

just buy a generic cable at Auto Zone for $10. you need the basic length and what the other end looks like. It might be a flat plate with a 3/8 inch hole that connects to the starter solenoid.

That's because the battrey cables are integrated into a section of the wiring harness to the power distribution panel. I found two sets on ebay - try there or the wrecking yards.

They do make special splices for the battery cables now, because of their complexity. It has the battery connector at one end, and a special kind of splice connector at the other end. I have not used one yet, but they are out there. Not sure why you are replacing your cable, but it might be worth a shot. Merry Christmas

???????????????

I bought a brand new OEM set from my local dealer about 3 months ago. Either I got the last set, or you might want to try another dealer. I can call mine in the morning and check if you need...

Seems like the negative was $40 and the positive was around $100?!?!?!?!? Don't really remember.

Cables are one of those service parts that are by their nature designed to need replacing due to use (vs a cylinder head or a differential case). Service parts have high volumes of sales and therefore attract lots of suppliers all wanting to make a profit. Even though these cables sound like a new type, I suspect the suppliers are growing. Avoid the stealer network.
