On Board Air Compressor Location?

On Board Air Compressor Location?
Santa came early and dropped off all the mods that are going on my 01 X- Sunday eve will be the night that I install the 5" superlift and Air Ride Air bags and On Board Air System-
My question is where to put the air compressor? At first glance, the directions indicate securing the compressor unit to the frame rail or floor pan(outside). Living in New England, the bottom of my X is often exposed to every weather element imaginable- and I cant believe that this would be good for that compressor unit-
Does anyone have other suggestions for installing the compressor- can you tell me where you installed yours and if it was a good place or not?
Thanks for any help in advance-
And I hope everyone has a Very Merry christmas and Happy Holiday Season!!

If you have room, try under the hood. I wouldn't want one in side the cab without a lot of sound deadening. If you must put it inside, I would pull up the trim near the rear doors behind the wheel wells. I suspect there is a space it should fit into. If you can fit it in there, I would use some styrofoam or fiberglass insulation to absorb some noise.

Your profile says you have a V-10. If you are running only one battery (Diesels have two) there should be plenty of room above your left front wheel in your engine compartment. I have the Firestone bags with compressor, and that is where mine is. It still produces a pretty loud noise inside the truck when it is in use, but I only run it when I am about to hook up the camper.

The toughest part with the compressor is cleanly running the air lines. I mounted a compressor in the rear jack compartment of a '93 4-runner I had. The noise wasn't bad, plus you don't really use it all that often. I would think there might be enough room in the right rear compartment of an X to mount one plus you don't have to run a mile of air hose -- just a mile of wires instead!

I toyed with the idea of putting it in the rear jack compartment- but I do have to run airlines back to the guages and switch- which I was going to put on the dash somewhere- I dont know if the kit comes with enough air line to run all the way back to the dash and then back to the bags??
Would it be user friendly if the guages were in the back as well- I could tap into the rear power point that is right near the jack compatment as well- but wont be able to use the bags from the drivers seat???

Tale a look at shadowdd's gallery for some tips. Bryan's compressor runs his bags and horns as well as having available air for tires and such.
