Coolant flush procedure..
#3
Prior to this, the dealer changed my lower radiator hose under warrenty, so to some degree I had a partial drain and refill of my system. As well, I flushed my cooling system 5 times with distilled water before I installed my coolant filter... and after 6,000 miles... this is what I got out.
I am a firm believer in the Ford Premium Gold coolant and only using distilled water for maximum cooling and protection. How did I flush my system....
1) Buy 4 gallons of Ford Premium Gold coolant and 18 gallons of distilled water at grocery store.
2) Remove lower radiator hose and drain.
3) Attach lower hose and refill system with distilled water until full - start motor and add to MAX line. Drive until thermostat opens (10 - 15 minutes on highway).
4) Repeat steps #2 and #3 five times (this will leave you with 100% distilled water in your cooling system).
5) After last drain, re-attach lower radiator hose and compute how much coolant is needed for your system to have a 50/50% concentration. Take total system capacity (in quarts) and divide by 2 and convert to gallons - this is how much coolant to add.
6) Add the appropiate amount of coolant computed above (plus 1/2 pint or so if adding a coolant filter - extra capacity).
7) Add distilled water to bring to "full-mark" and start motor. Drive and keep an eye on and add distilled water as needed to keep at proper level on degas bottle. I keep mine at MAX mark and with my motor, have never had a problem... but that is me.
...thats stolen but I don't remember who originally posted it probably bismic
