BG coolant flush

I am not about to devote a 10 hour day to doing a damn coolant flush on my F250..thats crazy...and after reading on here it seems that it would take that long ugh... Is the BG coolant flush performed at a reputable dealer a sufficient coolant flush for the 6.0 litre? If not then why???

Thanks,
Ryan

How did you determine that the coolant flush would take 10 hours?

I did the full flush as directed on here and it took me 2 hours including pulling and reinstalling thermostat. I would assume a lot depends on how bad your system is a bad system would require more flushes. Not sure about the BG flush but hear most dealerships use it. I had rather do it myself that way I know what I am getting..I look at it as bonding time with my baby..now that thought kinda worries me..

With an attitude like that, I'm surprised that your truck doesn't have a complex.

It can take most of a day if you follow some of the descriptions given here on FTE. I know, because I did it. Wouldn't do it that way again. The key is to remove the thermostat. It would have been well worth the time saved, and most of it can then be done in the driveway. It's those 30 minute drives to warm and open the thermostat that takes a looooong time.

I wouldn't touch BG stuff. Not without knowing what it is.

I second do it yourself. Took mine to the dealership and looked like they used regular tap water, unless they have a distilled water tank on the roof (which I doubt).

The BG will be fine in my mind, thats what I use on my vehicles. Instead of using the BG flush chemicals like on a gasser, I use the VC9 and the BG exchange machine. Add the VC9, drive around awhile, Hook the machine up, start and let idle until norm operating temp so the thermostat opens, push the button and walk away as it exchanges it. 15 minutes later Im done.

Ok guys my biggest fear with doing a flush myself is how long do you know how to wait in between the time you drain and refill with distilled water? I am so worried about cracking the block by pouring water into engine when its too hot!..How long do you have to let it cool down in between draining and refilling?

If you remove the t-stat for the flushing the block will not get hot enough in 3 to 5 min. run time to be damaged. The water coming out won't even burn you. Bad anyway, lol.

Exactly, and that's why next time I will remove the thermostat. It will save so much time. Otherwise, you have to drive a good 20 minutes just to open the stupid thermostat, then wait 30 minutes for the engine to cool down, and 10 minutes pulling hoses, filling, etc. It makes for about a 1 hour cycle per distilled water fill, and we're using about 20 galllons, so do the math.

Incidentally, I just let the engine cool until I could hold the top radiator hose in my hand. At that point the coolant draining from the lower radiator hose would not burn me, and I am certain it was safe to fill with cool water.

How long should the VC9 stay in the system?
