Tailgate w/step question

I have the tailgate with the step option and I want to get rid of the handle portion that is built into the interior tailgate bedliner part. Does anyone know if Ford dealers carry what I would call the bedliner/cover part for the inside of the tailgate for trucks that do not have the step option? While I like the step, I hate having the built in handle because when the tailgate is down, it is not very smooth if that makes sense. I have had to take the tailgate off before so a fork lift could take out a 3000lb pallet of slate because it couldn't back out with the way the tailgate is built with the handle. I need to take my Job 1 in next month for the "T" fitting along with a state inspection so if they have the replacement cover for the tailgate, I might as well pick it up. If any techs are on line, is there a part # I can get them to order ahead of time assuming they don't stock it along with a price?

8500 miles to date, no issues...

I don't think the covers can be swapped. They're completely different tailgates. The standard tailgate only uses a small cover which won't do you much good.

Just take the whole plastic panel off and get the metal panel from the dealer for the non step tailgate. Several people on here have done it.

Looks like we've got conflicting opinions here. Has anyone done this themselves, and can they post pics (Bump)

I just took the plastic and the handle off. it is a normal tailgate under, which you can put the cover plate on. That part number is correct.

well, there is the section where the handle bolts to.. that will stick up a little. I've had the handle and panel off twice now to add my camera handle and put the tailgate powerlock on..

the handle rests above the tailgate surface.

the link above won't work for non-members..

The bracket that holds the handle comes right off, leaving it to be a normal gate look.
Which powerlock did you go with? I always heard them never working...

power lock with camera tailgate handle?

I too am very interested in what power lock you were able to add to your camera equipped tailgate handle. I received an email yesterday from Pace Edwards saying they did not think their PowerGate lock worked with late model Super Duties equiped with camera in the handle, but they had heard rumors that the lock works for tailgates with camera in the emblem??

Do tell.
