loss of engin boost

Can anybody out there tell me what would cause the loss of 50% of my engin boost? I seem to loose power on a climb of a hill.

Thank you

Many things could cause low boost. A pre turbo exhuast leak, post turbo intake leak or low fuel delivery. It takes fuel to make boost and boost to burn fuel.

Look at the exhaust manifolds and up-pies right behind the turbo for soot. It might even blow it on the firewall.

Up date on loss of power

Well I finally got the bad news on my trucks loss of power, two things were broken, 1. the pasinger side exost manafold warped and broke a stud, 2. the "Y" conector for the turbo had two cracks in it. I dont know how that happened the truck has never overheated or I have never pushed it that hard I always keep it 500 deg less than the max temp on the phyrometer, on a pull. cost is labor intence parts are 900.00 plus tax and labor is 2k. wow there goes my Segway. well maybe that Dodge in 09 might come into the picture, if it's all they say it is. We'll see how the old 7.3 does after the work.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, 3K is a lot of money. I don't know what your mechanical skills are or even if you have the time or desire to do it yourself. If you could do it yourself you could cut the costs by leaps and bounds.

I don't know if you could still get a Segway but possible there could be one of those old folks electric runabouts in your near future.

Perhaps someone else will have more and better ideas.

whats the max temp on your gauge????and where is the pyro mounted?????.....if the pyro is after the turbo you could have been at 1500+ deg and the gauge only showed 1100

You are being way over charged!! That is not uncommon for a dealership but come on! You can get those parts all day long for less than $900 and my three year old daughter could do the work for $75 an hour and come in way less. I just did the math and even if the labor rate of the stealership is $90 and hour they are charging you for 22 hours labor. I could pull the engine twice in that amount of time! DON'T APPROVE THIS WORK! take it some where else.

Their diagnosis is not far fetched but their prices are!

I agree, If you dont do the work yourself you should get a quote from another shop! You could even save money by buying the parts yourself and taking it to a shop to install them. What ever happens you will get plenty of support here if you run into problems!

Joe I took it to mean the y-collector for the exhaust on the back of the turbo. But now that you mention it I am not sure which part we are talking about. No matter what he is being taken for a ride!

I dont know what the higest number marks on the gage is, cause the truck is in the shop now, but the higest temp my truck ever reached was 1050 second gear pulling a hill. that about it, I never pushed it to 1100 as Banks Co. recomended to be the MAX degrees unless for cresting the top of a hill for a few seconds.
I'll take pictures of the bad parts and put them on this update thread in a tag type file/picture when I get it back. I realy want to see where it broke too.

My guess is that your pyrometer probe is in the turbo downpipe. If that is the case then 1150 could still be too high! 1200 degrees is the prolonged limit for temps pre-turbo but post turbo (probe in the downpipe) the temps can be 300-500 cooler so if your post turbo temps are 1100 you could actually be 400 degree over the limit

$3k??? Dam...
I've got the parts sitting here. I'll fly from Cleveland with the parts and tools and do it for you for $2500...

But, some people just need to get it done. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
