I've have a 2000 F150 4.6L V8 (standard transmission) with 40,000 miles - the engine has started to skip while under load. The skip is not consistent . . . just now and then while the engine is under a load / at lower rpm. It "seems" to occur more when the engine is warmed up. I brought it to a shop and the checked for error codes on the computer but they did not find any codes, nor has the check engine light has come on. Just a random skip.

Bad coil ? bad plugs ? Only 40K of light use. I asked on the coils as the shop made reference to replacing a number of coils on a Expedition recently.

Any ideas ? any known problems with the 4.6's skipping ?

Don't use bosch plugs, if you have them in there. That will cause that type of problem, even if they're brand new.

 

Drive it until the ck engine light comes on and then ck the code. replace the coil and plug on that cyl.

 

My 97 with the 4.6 did that on Weds took it to shop and found the spark plug wires where arcing and needed replaced, Runs better then ever now.
