Hi, I just got my excursion and it skips really bad when going up the bridge, or when it is under any load. I definitely need to change my plugs. I also may need to change my coils. Is it okay to get the cheap $8 coils off ebay or do I need to spend the money on the $75 ford motorcrafts? Thanks
I have had alot of experience with coil packs. I bought the cheap ones and they went bad fast. You get what you pay for. Find some decent ones and you will be good. Motorcraft will be fine. I put some Accel's in once and they are great. I wouldn't pay $75 a coil though. You can try the cheap ones...... keep your fingers crossed .....

Coils are not a maintenance item that should be changed at a certain interval. But they can break, and when they do the bad part should be isolated and then replaced. Would you replace all four wheel bearings if one started making noise?
Find the bad coil if there is one, and replace that one. No reason to spend $500+ in parts to fix a $50 issue. And DON'T pay $75 for a Motorcraft coil! RockAuto Parts Catalog sells them for $39!
How much were the accels? Id only change one but im not throwing any codes.
If it's happening at idle you can isolate the bad part by disconnecting one at a time until there is no change in the way the engine runs. That'll tell you which cylinder is giving you trouble.
If you're confident it's a bad COP, you could simply buy one new COP, install it, and take it for a drive. If it still misfires switch the COP to the next cylinder and repeat. It would take a couple hours to go through all cylinders, but it sure beats paying $500 for parts that you don't need.

I think I paid $40 each for the accels.... like the others have said, try to locate the 1 maybe 2 coils that are failing, would cost alot to replace all 10 when you dont need too. My truck threw a code one time when it was the coil and didnt other times.....
I'm with Crazy001 on not replacing all the coils . If there is a bad one replace it . When you put in plugs replace the coil boots , not the whole coil . That is how I do it .
