That was done by a fellow over at f150online I do believe......can't say how good a job it does but it is a relatively free mod. Go for it. THE best possible free mod (relatively) you could do is the j-mod for your 4R70W transmission....you can find this over at tccoa.com and click on the "tech articles" section and see for yourself. I plan on doing this after winter myself.
So far I have used a Volant intake and I can't say it has done anything for me except make a hiss under acceleration.

Jerry designed the transmissions for Ford for years....he was the one who came up with the idea to enlarge the holes in the separator plates in your 4R70W tranny, hence the "J" in j-mod. It will increase the shift pressure and extend the life of your transmission. Many guys have done this mod and it has been rumored to be good for up to 400hp

The Gotts Mod is removing the snorkel from the fender to the "accordion" joint on the intake tube. The snorkel tapers down to almost 2" where it enters the fender. Obviously, this is not ideal.
Everyone that I've talked to that has tried it have been very happy with the results. I did a similar mod several years ago and found that it picked up about 8 HP, most of which was above 3000 RPM. So in my opinion, it's well worth the effort.
