defective dpf causes??
i need some help from y'all.
i'm taking my 2008 f350 psd into my dealer to have them find out why my dpf cracked at 5000 miles. fuel is NOT the problem as i have used nothing but ulsd and have the receipts to prove it.
any suggestions as to what could have caused the dpf to become cracked/defective would be appreciated. i'm gonna print it all out and give it to my service advisor...........
thanks,

How did you determine that the DPF is cracked?

started out with pitch black tailpipes, then a blue/grey smoke billowing out of the tailpipe during acceleration, then the 2nd dealer i took it to saw the crack in the dpf...!!!
i want to make sure ford REPAIRS the cause of the defective dpf while the truck is still under warranty or this will happen again and again..............

page 15 in above sums up how to tell if working w/o instruments! Don't miss the other good reading before the end of document.

There is good info in the last link above if you get far enough into it.
What I believe I am reading in documents at the above links and many more I did not post is that if there is too much soot that thermal runaway can occur during regen and cause damage and cracks. One problem mentioned is incomplete regen leaving part of the DPF with high soot levels vs. rest of DPF; then when regen occurs the higher soot levels flash with lots of heat and possible damage.
Perhaps this is part of reason Ford stopped regen at idle as it is more likely to be ended in middle of regen if the vehicle is turned off. I know I can shut mine off in regen and it is 50/50 as to will it pick back up the regen when next started.
Mine ran 18,000 miles with clean tail pipe tips; I'm getting close to 25,000 miles and it is now very black and sometimes I see black soot blow from exhaust. Will be taking to dealer in next few weeks to see what they do or not.
