Anyone have an engine failure and running dpf delete? I'm sure some have that run big tires and big tunes and drive the **** out of the truck. However, i'm more interested in the guy that did the dpf delete and runs his truck average and not like a race car. What are your responses?
i put a dpf delete kit on my 08 with 4" turbo back exhaust and a edge evolution cts programer and it works very well boosted my fuel milage to 21 mpg the truck runs better and shifts better......but if you put a dpf delete on you will NOT pass a emissions test my suggestion is to put the kit on and have it clamped and bolted not welded as well have your stock system cut just after the dpf so that it can be reinstalled in about a hour or 2 in your driveway so that you can take it to the emission test and tear it off again after you pass
i understand the ins and outs of doing a dpf delete. However, i've seen a few engine failures and am curious how many are factory engines and how many are dpf deleted engines. The reason i'm asking is that i don't recall seeing hardly any engine failures that include a dpf delete. The ones i do recall seem to always be someone with big tires and or driving the truck like a race car. Thanks,
well I have not seen or heard of anyone with 6.4 engine problems yet......I have around 15 buddies that drive the 6.4 and no problems with any of them some have 12" lifts with 44" tires and stock exhaust......i think its just luck of the draw some are just lemons period......we all work in the oil field in western canada and these trucks are our work trucks and they do take a beating......6.4 is def better then the 6.0 the 6.0 usually have alot of head gasget issues as well as problems with the head bolts strecthing but ford has c leared up the head bolt issue......the only thing i was warned about was running the programer at its highest level they dont recomend it, it will blow your head gaskets in a short period of time......i leave mine on level 1 and it seems to give me the best fuel economy and thats where edge recomds you leave it
WAIT TILL YOU GET MORE MILES ON THEM .MINE IS A WORK TRUCK I HAVE OVER 300,000 ON IT AND THE MOTOR JUST LOST TWO CYLINDERS 6@8 FOUND NEW MOTOR PUTTING IN MY SELF FORD WANTS TOO MUCH.

Same here...I don't personally know of ANYONE with a 6.4 problem, but if you read these forums, the paranoia runneth thick. But, my cousin's neighbor has a friend who knows a guy whose buddies 6.4 just blowed up one night with no warning whatsoever....(sarcasm) I'm sure there ARE problems, but like ANY vehicle, it probably boils down to driving habit/lack of maintenance. I should start a "I haven't had a problem thread".
well if you have over 300,000 on your truck and are using it for a work truck you got your use out of it.....and you are right it is all in how you drive and abuse your truck and if you keep up with the general maintenance schedual on these trucks or any truck for that matter.....simple thing like changing your oil and fuel filters as well as air filters will go a long way in prolonging thge life of your engine especially your injectors
I'm about to hit 60,000km on mine and it's still running strong. I've been tuned since around 6000km and I've never looked back. I don't beat on my truck but I definately don't baby it either. Most of my driving is on the highway at around 130-140km/hr but I still enjoy driving through town and laying down beats on unsuspecting punks, lol. I agree with the previous posts that regular maintenance will go a long way with these motors.

Help me understand why you would put a section of 4" (dpf delete section) into a system that would have to be reduced back to the stock 3 1/2" exhaust system. Just trying to piece this all together to see if it is worth it. I've heard you can gain mpg, I've heard it is a waste and you'll never get a return on your investment (ROI). Man, it is just so confusing. Thanks.
well you can put a 3.5 " delete pipe in if you want, they do make them in 3.5" all the way up to 5"......obviously if you are going to go with a 4" dpf delete you will want to get a exhaust kit that replaces you entire stock system from your downpipe back that is 4" as well.....afe make a good 4" kit that bolts up comes with all the pieces and clamps for around $425......My cousin is a retired ford mechanic and he does recomend using the muffler they include in the kit and not a total straight pipe because the dual stage turbo does need a little back pressure to operate properly.......he also suggests not going more then 4" because you then run into clearence problems around your axle as well as the back pressure, and a 4" system is capable of handling over 1000 hp so there is no need for it unless you are doing major mods to your engine

Going to a 4" system is fine but I system I suspect you will lose the ability to keep the stock dual tail pipe tips won't you? I want to keep the stock look. I also will make sure there is a muffler on it cause I don't want it to be loud at all. Sometimes I miss the sound of a diesel but most of the time I enjoy the piece and quiet Ford has built into motor.
