Pleas help. I have a 4.0l flyewheel clutch and starter on my 2.9l V6 Bronco2!
I just bought this bronco(2.9l V6). I noticed the starter was staying on for about 2 seconds after the engine cranks. Come to find out the guy who had it before me put on a flywheel, clutch, and starter from a 4.0l '97 Ford Explorer.
I am going to try to shim the starter out to see if that fixes the problem but now I am concerned about using the bigger flywheel and clutch with the smaller engine.
Is this ok? He said he did it because of the bigger tired he had put on the truck. I am a bit concerned now. If it is ok any ideas on how to fix the starter issue?

Hi and welcome!
This isn't an issue I've come across before. The 4.0 flywheel would have to be the same diameter as the 2.9, though it may be heavier. I would go ahead and try shimming the starter to see if that takes care of the problem. Does it seem to run okay once it's started, no vibration problems? The 4.0 is basically a stroked version of the 2.9 anyway.
