? About Amps and Subs

I have a two channel Amp. I just got 4 8" subs from a friend, and was wondering if I could hook it up so two subs are running off of one channel from the AMP?? SO basically two subs per channel, is it possible??

I dont think that it will work. Only due to the fact that you probally dont have the vast majority to power both subs under one channel. Which means that you dont have the wattage to power all four subs. But it all depends on how much max wattage your amp puts out peer channel.

Depends on the amp and the ohms of the subs. If the amp has enough power to push them and can handle the ohms being lowered by running them in parallel, then you might be alright.

What type amp is it and what is the power rating on it? Also, what type of subs are they?

it all depends on what kind of subs, the number of voice coils, the ohms and power needed. but i should work. if there single voice coil 4ohm subs u can wire them in paralell (i think) to get 2 ohms. most amps are rated for 4ohm and 2 ohms anyway. im not absolutly sure, but i would say if u can, share some specifics.

you can 2, 4 ohm speakers in parallel equals 2 ohms. if you have a 400 watt amp and each of you speakers are 100watts than it will work fine. the amp must be 2 ohm stable! and if you going to push it to it's limits you mush have proper cables. to many people use small guage cable and burn up their amp at peak power. if the amp can't get it's full power, than it will disstort and wreck your speakers and the amp. i always match the RMS of each the speakers and the amp. the lower the rated voltage the higher the power output is. even if you Alternator is putting th full 14.4 volts it should you usally lose some byt the time it gets to the amp. try and find an amp that is rated at 12.5 volts. hope i helped.

ok first off. if your subs ar 4 ohm single voice coil units and your amp is only a 4 ohm stable unit no you cant do that. but if it is a 2 ohm stable unit and can give the watts out then do it. my system is run off of a jenson ka3 3 channel. 2 channels are 2 ohm stable for light wheight subs and the third is one ohm stable (125 at 4 ohms 200 at 2 ohms 25o at 1 ohm) so with myne i have the wattage and the stability to play around with. so if you end up getting another amp to power these the general rule to remember is that adding a second subwoffer of the same resistance effectifly halves the resistance and can almost double the power. like my two four ohms run at 2 ohms. 3 4 ohms would run 1.5 and 4 of them would run at the god all mighty 1 ohm. you also need to take into abcount how much the amp will need to generate the power you want. myne needs 50 amps from a 75 amp alt (not much room to play with i know) so i have to use a voltmeter to keep an eye on my battery. try to use low resistance copper wire and no smaller than 8 gauge for a mild system (such as myne as far im concerned).
