What year truck is this?

As I was working on my 56COE and standing on the flatbed, I looked over the neighbors fence and saw this old truck in the back yard. Well heck I had to find out about it.

They said it was a 56 Ford pickup with a newer (90s)Chevy stepside bed and a 69 big block motor. He said he would take $400 for it.

It looks like they did a lot of body work on it, interior is a mess, cound not get the hood open to see inside. He said it does not run, no clue why, dahhh.

A. is it worth $400
B. What year is it?

I have a few more pictures but they dont really do much

Thanks,
Jeff

By the grille, it is a 54. The windshield is slanted so that means 53-55 as 56 had the return angle windshield. Depends on how the body work was done but $400 is a good price if not too badly messed up.

It appears to be a '54. That's a '54 grille anyway. It is definitely not a '56, by the shape of the A pillars. I would say there's at least $400 worth of parts on it.

There's $400 worth of sheet metal on just the front clip!!! Figure $100 each for the fenders, $200 for the hood.

That doesn't even count the grill, gravel pan (both unique to 54), cab and doors. Unless the thing is rust-rotted out (which doesn't appear to be the case, it would be profitable just to scavenge the parts and sell them piecemeal.

I checked over the body and it looks real clean. Who ever did the body work did a great job. They have a funky Chevy Stepside one the back, totally stupid looking but hey, it too can be sold for a couple of hundred on CL.

Now I need to talk the wife into letting me have it too. I just got the ok on the 56 COE , glad I have 1/2 acre to play with my toys

+1. I did the same as Steve. A basket case with a title cost $500. But the frame is great, and the engine is there.

I called a friend of mine and asked if he wanted a project for his son. Showed him the pics and he wants it. He had a 55 f100 so he knows about them a lot more than I. His son is 15 and he is already knows more about cars than many mechanics.

Are the grills alone not worth close to 4 bills? It looks real clean and seems a few guys are searching for them. And if the truck has clean paper, good deal I'd say. Cool find Jef.

I think that is my once in a lifetime find, that and the COE. I have suddenly become very "aware" of allys, backyards and barns looking, lurking, and driving unknown roads in search of the Holy Grail of Barn Yard Finds. Peeking over fences, behind garages, through windows, oh wait not windows I forgot.

The best thing you did for the truck is find a buyer that has a means to influnece a young man into becoming a Truck Enthusiasts as well. I know how it hurts not having a payroll for all the great finds around. That truck has got great potential. It also has had the steering converted to tilt, probably a chezy set up as well.
