What is Wrong with the Trucks Stance

I can't put my finger on it but it just does not look correct.

It looks fine to me... I bet it just the long bed and long running boards of this one ton that fooling with your eyes. However, I'd like to see a picture of the rear springs.

A little lower in the front, taller tires and you're set Christopher. I know you're running a straight axle and that ain't so easy to do. It looks fine. But you could use some more tire. Our front fenders just eat up little tire.

I was just curious if the rear springs are original or not...... I'd also say that once you dress up those front wheels and make them stand out a little more, the front fenders won't be so overwhelming. I'd consider chroming the front bumper as well - eye candy to draw attention to differant places.

The rear springs are original, I took out all except five of the springs front and rear. In the pictures I actually have 2" of lift block in the rear. I think the truck needs more rake also. I wish I could find someone in Minnesota who could drop my front axle and a place that can do it for less then $400.00.

Try drop spindles on the front, and larger tires. That will fill the front fenders, as for the back The larger ntires will do the same but, also removing some of those one ton springs will lower it and soften the aft end.

I have to agree with Fenders..... more meat in the fender holes... those fenders are huge and smaller tires get lost... I think I'm gonna have the same problem with the '53 and 295-50x15s They are wide enough but too low at 26.5" height...

ever thought of shortening the bed ??? big project but might be worth it...

hey ?? then you could do it over and add a little back... euw..euw.. then add a late model bed... I'm a sick puppy

later,
john

As the truck capacities increased, they enlarged the wheel well openings for much larger tires. If you are going to be running car sized tires you might see if 1/2 ton fenders will interchange so your tires don't appear to be too small.
You can get a couple inches more drop in the front by using reversed eye main leaves.
If you have a spring shop in your area they could reverse the arch of your main leaves for a low budget alternative to buying new leaves. You can even reverse the arches yourself if you're resourcful and don't mind listening to an "anvil chorus".

I also think you need to replace the front fenders with F1's or change the wheel opening to F1 size. You may want to install the frt wheel tire combo that you are going to use then tape some cardboard in the wheel opening, cut it to the opening size you think is right, paint it flat black then stand back and take a look, if it looks right to you then change the wheel opening on the fender.

I think reversed eye springs will bring the front end down about right.

Trucks looking good.

It looks like you are running the original tire/wheel in the front and a new combo in the back. Just duplicate the new look for the front and I think it will help a lot. Then adjust your springs like it appears you have done in the rear. Good luck, John

Chris,

Speaking from the viewpoint of another F-3 owner, you are running into exactly what I am trying to avoid by changing my truck over to an F-1. The long bed extending past the rear fenders and the large wheel well openings are not as attractive as the cooler looking shorter bed and smaller fender openings of the F-1. F-1 front fenders will fit to help out up front. I know it's a lot of work to shorten the frame of an F-3 to use an F-1 bed on it, but that's the only way to get that cool F-1 look.

I have reverse eye main springs in the front and removed all the short leaves so I have five leaves. The front axle has 7 inches clearance from the ground to its bottom. I think the dropped axle is what I am looking at 3 inches will bring the fender down to the tire.
I am not sure I have ever seen lowered spindles for the 1950 Ford truck. I am sure they would cost about the same or more than having the axle lowered.
The rear tire and wheel combo are the ones that are going to stay they are a P275/65/R15.
I am not sure I want to go to F1 fenders up front I have some 15 x 8 smoothies reversed for the front. I think they would rub on F1 fenders might just have to order the tires and put them on and see how that looks.
I like the longer bed better personnal preference I guess. I have an F1 that I am using for parts that I could have used the bed off of but did not want to.
