Last week the check fuel cap light came on in my 2003 F150. I double checked the cap was tight but the light still did not go off. I disconnected the battery and the light went off. Yesterday the Service engine soon light came on. (not the check fuel cap)
I bought a Haynes manual thinking it would tell me how to decode the light but apparently I need a OBDII scanner/reader.
What's the chances it's just the fuel cap? A new cap is $26 and I just spend $26 on a haynes manual. I think I might just take it to the shop.
I'll have to find someone with a code reader. I'm in Canada and we don't have Autozone. I don't think any of our automotive parts shops do the free reading.
Check & see if one of your friends has a programmer on their Ford. I use my SCT 9100 to read the codes on all my Fords. All Superchip programmers will read codes. It will have to be a Ford model.
