Oh No: Check engine light came on

I've had 5000 care free miles on my new 6.7, and today I noticed that the Check Engine light was on. I was hoping that it was just a loose fuel cap, but the cap was tightly closed. I called service and am bringing it in tomorrow for diagnostics. Well at least the truck is in warranty. Hope it's a simple fix.

Happened to me too a few weeks ago. It was nothing, ford hotline claimed it was a computer glitch. Threw a code for "exhaust gas temp too low". Kinda weird, you'd think that a cold engine would have cool exhaust when you first start up, and the tech at my dealer said the code was thrown with oil temp at 142. These engines run with oil temp at 205 so we know that it was right after start up.

It dosen't seem too serious cause the truck runs and drives fine. Hope it's only a glitch. As long as I have to bring it in, I'll see if they can do the new reflash at the same time.

Yours probably threw the false P050E DTC - Cold Start Engine Exhaust Temperature Too Low which was corrected along with a few other false DTC's with the recent calibration update.

My CEL came on right out of the box. It turned out to be the fuel temperature sensor wasn't plugged in good enough.

Thanks, that is the code. Glad to know it is going to be updated/fixed.

Got reflashed,and I like it.

The truck went into the dealer's shop this morning. I asked the tech to reflash the computer with the power upgrade after clearing the problem. He said that the problem was a minor glitch and the reflash would overwrite it. When I got the truck back I was pleasently surprised. The check engine light was out, and there was a noticeable increase in performance. Now lets see about the 2% decrease in fuel consumption.

My CEL came on at 3400 miles on a Friday night. No apparent change in performance so I kept running all weekend with plans to go to the dealer Monday. I started the truck at 2 pm Sunday afternoon and the light went out and has not come back on, I'm at 4900 miles. Dealer didn't have a clue, said they couldn't diagnose it if the light wasn't on when I brought it in. Isn't there some kind of history file in the PCM? If that was a warning that something might blow up later on then I would want it fixed ahead of time.
