What Size Turbo?

Dave S,

Whose/what size turbo do you have on your truck? What's the AR?

I am running an ATS turbo with a 3" downpipe.
Been a while since I looked at the AR but I think it was .87 if I remember right.

BTW tuckerd1-

Assuming Dave's turbo is a factory ATS turbo, it's the same as mine- .70 A/R compressor, .86 (I believe) turbine. T04B hybrid with a Stage III turbine wheel. I have no idea what trim the compressor wheel is but I'd sure like to find out.

ATSturbo.com

Aftermarket as in not a stock Ford turbo.
And it originally had a 3" down pipe, not the smashed Ford version.

Well, aftermarket, "stock," if it's more than a few years old they're all the same turbo, since they only just switched to the Aurora 2000, whatever it is.

I was looking on ATSs web site today trying to figure out what makes the Aurora 2000 for our trucks so great but could only find that suposibly it spools realy fast no explenation why. they had slightly more detailed info on the dodge version but that realy doesn't help any.

Well, of course they're not gonna give out very much info on the turbo because they don't really want anyone else to know.

I'm hoping someone will come along eventually and buy the new kit, and post up some pics of this new turbo.

I really doubt it's all that much different...in fact it's probably still a Garrett T4-based turbo as they are very common. Just looking at the pics on their website and in their brochures, though, I really can't tell much as the pictures really don't show anything but the compressor housing.

Maybe saying Aurora on the housing is the difference You would think they would say something like spools quicker due to change in trim, AR, or something instead of just spools quicker.

Thanks Dave. I could not get to this site from home this weekend???

I have the Garrett T04B69. I'm thinking seriously of upgrading to a bigger turbo because of my IC. I'm only seeing 9-10# boost WOT. I have turbo cal pump fuel maxed out and the stage 1 inj. I'm looking at timing and other things in the meantime.

I can't find any info on the T04B on the net. Anyone have any informative links?

Some info here:

Turbo Introduction

I have the T04B in my truck and am trying to figure out how to get more boost out of it. The problem with going to a bigger turbo is that it will spool up at a higher RPM. In theory I have a bigger turbo that what Dave has in his truck, but I am maxing out at only 8 psi. I'm thinking that there is larger compressor wheel and housing to put on it, but there is very little info on custom turbos on the web. I guess its something that there is money in or something, nobody wants to tell too much for free.

I have seen a Banks kit for gasoline v-8's that uses two turbos. If one were to put twin turbos on an IDI what size would work best? I'm guessing that smaller ones would spool up sooner, and since there would be two of them they wouldn't have to pump out too awful much PSI, say 6-10 a piece? Lotsa questions.
