windshield seal

i pulled the front windshield out to clean out channel and paint. and i want to put a new seal back in and seat the glass. should i hire this out or is it fairly easy? and i saw that my factory seal had seperate corner pieces. was this an aftermarket seal or original because i am finding seals online but they are one complete seal? and what kind of sealant should be used to seat seal?

I would advise, unless you have done this before, Hiring out because all that work can end up with one piece of cracked glass!!

The weatherstrip comes as one complete piece.

Weatherstrips are made from extrusions...one continuous piece, and so when made for each application, the two ends have to be glued together.

If there are any special moulded pieces (like cab corners), then the manufacturer glues those pieces to the weatherstrip.

What has happened to your w/strip = the L shaped cab corners have separated from the w/strip.

There are two types of windshield weatherstrips used on F Series Trucks 1967/72.

C7TZ-8103110-A .. Windshield Weatherstrip-Use without Windshield Mouldings-Regular Cab

C7TZ-8103110-B .. Windshield Weatherstrip-Use with Windshield Mouldings-Custom Cab

then i believe what i had was an aftermarket seal because this seal (one that was on it originally) was 8 different pieces. it had 4 different corner pieces and 4 "runner" pieces. but what you are telling me is the 1 piece seal is the actual replacement one that i need?

The weather stripping is 1 piece, as Number's said. The chrome molding will be in several pieces, fits into the weather striping. The chrome molding makes it a lot harder to install.

It's the only one.

Your original has disintigrated, caused by age, heat and water. The four L shaped corner pieces are all unique, and were glued to the weatherstrip originally.

It's possible your windshield was replaced at some time, and when the w/strip was removed, in came apart in sections.

Rather than buy a new one, a previous owned patched it up.

AFAIK, no one supplied w/s weatherstrips for these trucks other than Ford Motor Company till only a few years ago...after the original Ford w/strips went obsolete.

I was able to install the windshield in my truck by myself. Soapy water in a spray bottle did the trick. Put the seal on the glass and insert the assembly bottom first from the outside. Then pull the rubber in with a pick. Not too bad unless you have the stainless inserts. Stainless trim must be put in rubber slot prior to installation. Found that out the hard way...

Seriously?! That bites! Could you not use the soapy water trick on the trim?

The way the trim hooks the glass, soap will not work. I use tape to hold the chrome in place/together.

Bummer. I wasn't planning on removing the glass this go-round but I want the ss trim back on. The chips in the glass almost gaurantee a bad day.

Add this to the list useful things that I have learned about my truck from this site.

i change the rear one piece window for a sliding (four piece )window.taking it out was fairly easy, just a thin ,long flat screwdriver and some soap water.installing it was a bit more tricky, the first 90% really easy starting in one corner the last corner you need a bunch of detergent and a strong sting or thin rope to pull rubber lip into the inside of the cab while you pull, and a buddy to help you pushing from outside,go a little bit a a time ,the rubber lip breaks easy.
