Sound Deadening Blankets

Hi. New to the forum. I just bought an '06 F150 and it is a basic work truck. I get a lot of engine/road noise in the cab. After looking under the dash at the firewall, I see it is metal with no sound absorbing pads anywhere. Do the upscale trucks have something to quiet down the cabin? Would love to purchase or make something to dampen the noise. Love the truck.

My FX4 has almost 0 road/engine noise. try an auto parts store or go to a carpet store. get some of that foam style padding that goes beneath carpetting. it'll kill your road noise

I'm having the same issue in my Mustang. they sell this liquid sealer stuff that is designed for sound dampening. It looks like a Rhino/Linex covering when dried and is supposed to cut noise by 1/2. wish I could remember the name for you.

Good thought, I'll try the carpet idea.

Welcome to FTE! What part of SC are you from?

I believe Dynamat still carries a product thats made to go under the hood and take the heat, moisture and other flying fluids.
http://www.dynamat.com/products_automotive_hoodliner.html

I'm sure if you really google around you could find competitive prices and or "other" manufacturers that carry the same thing for less.

On EDIT: Iirc, there is a user that went out and ordered the liner that goes under the hood of the LT.
Try this...https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...underhood.html
The user's truck in question is a 250; but the liner is from a Lincoln Mark LT.

Sound Dampening

I'm on the coast. I notice the air intake is fed from the left fender. I may be picking up some noise there too. Either way I'm sure some padding here and there will quiet it down. Thanks again.

My 06 KR has a foil coated pad between the engine and fire wall- doesn't look like it would be easy to add to much stuff here. The inside has carpet + pad.

I would focus my efforts on the inside under the dash as it is easier to access. Also the back wall lets in a lot of noise. And the doors and the floor.

On my 01 super cab I had very good success in quieting down the interior with FatMat(similar to dynamat)-the wife was a little concerned when she saw the $35k truck w/ the interior, including seats and carpet, all over the garage.

On a little RV(the ones on a toyota 1 ton frame), in the cab area, I had excellent success using a combination of paintable rubber undercoating(pep boys- $6 a can) and cheap carpet pad. A couple days and the smell was gone.

On the wife's 03 I used fatmat & the rubber undercoat the first time with decent success and the second time(her car was hit and the floor was replaced) I used mostly the rubber undercoat and fatmat in some areas. There was less success here as I went with what turned out to be a thinner rubber under coat.

The rubber undercoat is easy to apply but WILL get on everything that is not covered. Oh yeah make sure you don't put too much padding under the gas pedal .

Once the warranty is up on my current truck I'm going to add some FatMat/ Dynamat to the floors. Rubber undercoating in the doors, new speakers and some strategically placed foam pieces when putting the door panels back on(no squeaks/rattles allowed in my trucks) and the truck will be a dream to drive for years to come.

If you're going to pull a lot of trim off get a tool- you'll break fewer clips with one and if you're reaching around sheet metal wear gloves- it's sharp.

Good luck- I started off doing the doors on my 01 and ending up doing the entire cab.

Tim
