Has anyone had Line-X (or equiv) sprayed under their hood? Just had a new hood installed (warranty) and was wondering about using Line-X instead of buying a felt liner.
im sure this would work, other then the weight that this coating would add to the hood.its quite heavy apperently.Im sure you would spray it on fairly thin but still an issue.
I'd start by hanging weights on the hood and see what point the hood no longer stays open. I know spreading the weight over the entire hood will change the critical weight, but this will give you an idea. Any winds in a borderline situation will likely close the hood for you. I know if you remove one of the little shocks that supports the hood it won't even attempt to stay up.
It is an interesting idea though. If you decide to do it make sure you pay attention to the noise difference. If it works out maybe we can name a mod after you.
NOT doing the LineX!! Dealer doesn't advise it because of high underhood tempertures. Line-X starts melting at (about) 300 degrees. I have the 6.0 turbo. He read temp with it from idle to 2K RPM...my gauge read 600*, he read close to 300 with hood OPEN! I don't want black crap dripping on the engine so I declined. He said he'd do it if I wanted. About $200.00...I said no thanks.
I stopped by the Lincoln dealer and ordered the Lincoln Mark LT underhood insulation. It LOOKS to be the same hood as the 250 (or dang close). It doesn't get in for about a week. After I get it installed, I'll let ya know hope it goes. Price was $80 something WITH all the mounting hardware and Maryland tax. I think he said the insulation was 65. There's 14 plastic push pins that look to hold it on. Looking at my hood, it looks like all the holes are already drilled for it.
Picked up and installed the insulation today. NOT an exact fit, but very close. Had to drill a few holes for the push pins to hold it up, but it only took less than an hour to look at, mark, drill and install. Hardest part was getting the hood lamp back on.
Look around in the Super Duty forum. There are quite a few threads on this. The guys have used the insulation from the 99-04 trucks, and have posted part numbers for it and the clips to hold it in place.
