Auto Trans is starting in second gear!? No first in Drive
I just bought a 2wd 1990 Ford F-250 with the EFI 302 and what I believe to be an E4OD tranny; shift pattern (P R N OD 2 1).
My problem is:
Everytime I try to take off from a stop (gear shift selector is in OD). The truck tries to take off (very sluggishly) in second gear. I can remedy this by manually selecting '1' on the shifter. After I'm moving, I can put the gear selecter back to OD, and the transmission will shift up and down through all the gears, except first. If I come to a stop again, 95% of the time, I have to manually shift to first again. Other than this, it drives perfectly.
Notes:
~The transmission fluid looks good and is full.
~no torque converter shudder
~shifts very smoothly, except into reverse
~OverDrive Disengage Button works...yet even when it is lit, it still won't go into 1st when OD is selected with the Shifter.
Can anyone give me any advice on how to fix this problem?
