live2 yes once in a while it will get into weird weather and hopefully it will convince those from someplace else to mave back there. We had snow in tucson and they closed all the roads as the bridges iced over. lasted all of 1/2day!!

Yes the adjuster is what I am talking about. I went thru the process of replacing the IAC, the part in the (electronic) throttle body for the butterfly (cant think of what its called right now). spent about 3-4 hrs at a shop with all the ford books that will explain where a codes comes from and the ones from the IAC just keep on going it seems. anyhow it got to a point that there was a bad wire in the wire bundle someplace for the IAC so I disconnected it all together. The truck has 230K on it and runs like a charm, just lost my clutch however so gotta go pull the master to see if that cures it so I dont have to pull the trans (yeah right I know lotsa luck).

As I reca;; at autozone the IAC is less then $40 more like 25 but like I said it didnt help so I took it back.

CDDC as to the speed its possible but my speedo stops at about 90 as I recall this AM, but I have buried the needle several times so anything is possible. only problems that I have had atre mainly transmission and it was there when I bought the truck. Had to pull 2x, 1st for the main cluster from the oil loss problem of PO, 2d was when it would not stay in OD. Also have replaced the AC compressor 2x. Itrs a good little truck gets run 150 miles daily RT plus if we have a n accident site I need to go to which is another work site 50 miles away. average 20mpg at highway speeds, running 235-65 15 tires and wheels, CAI, and a full freeflow 2.5 inch exhaust from the Y pipe back. Made locally by a guy at a performance shop. also have 3:08 gears so its not a dragster from the lights but it will get up and go. dont know what the final is now with the bigger tires but the 4.0 will pull em dont think a 3.0 would.

Apparently, the earlier trucks are different from the current ones, since I accidentally left the iac disconnected once after changing it, and the truck wouldn't idle at all until it was warm, unless I had my foot on the throttle to give it more air. I would guess that they changed the way that worked when they went from EEC-IV to EEC-V, which means that Rockledge may be right that the reset procedure I posted is only for EEC-IV vehicles. I haven't been able to confirm or refute that as of yet - too much real work to do!

Well replaced the ect still no change...... now what?

list of replacement in past week
IAC
PCV
ECT
Cleaned maf
Removed and cleaned throttle body
Checked with intake cleaner for vacuume leaks
Still idleing at 1000-1200
Any more ideas
Do you think it could be the breather that i added, it is unmetered air, although not getting any lean codes. LOL there is a vacumme at that point when i put my hand over it, but does not change idle speed. I am lost

cddz, you might start another post 'cause your questions are getting burried in this post.
I drove my Ranger yesterday with the IAC unplugged (as suggested) didn't seem to make much difference. Still idled at 1000- 1100 and the check engine light came on once. I'm going to look for that "screw" in the throttle body today and try that adjustment.

looks like the engine breather which is supposed to be hooked into the air intake line.

yopu may as a result have a very bad vacumm leak. This is in the hole on the right valve cover right? I should have been connected to the intake line after the maf, so you might have to reconnect to the inlet hose.

also there is an electric throttle body in the intake that may require R&R or at least adjustment once you get everything set up.

That breather should have no effect on your idle unless you left a hole open on your intake. Is the seal tight on your MAF adapter?

That breather is on the inlet side of the pcv system, right? If the pcv valve is bad, and lets in too much air, it could make it idle too fast. You might try a new pcv valve if you haven't already done that. Also, the air that's let in is unmetered, so it will make the maf function slightly off, but as long as the ecu can learn that difference, it won't trip the 'check engine' light.
