302 and np435 with 3.50
I seem to be having not a good time with the combination of a 302 with a np435 and 3.50 rear end. I gotta gas it up just to take off in granny gear...Its got really high gears now since I put the 302 down in it...what type of rearend could I get to make it where i can take off in granny gear without hitting the gas like when i had the 300 in it? Thanks

For what it is worth for your knowledge, the smaller the number the gear ratio in the rear end the faster the vehicle would be on top end or at the max RPM of the motor. The larger the number the more torque you will have at the wheels. Typically the 302 is an RPM motor or a top end motor.I have a 302 out of a 95 Mustang in my 76 Ford F100 short bed pickup and to burnout you really have to bring the R's up and Semi drop the clutch to get her to bark. However when I am going down the road if I floor it at around 2000 RPM-just cruzing, it will slowly start to pick up untill it hit about 4,000 and then it really takes off and you can feel her rip. Hope this helps to decide what you are looking for and to understand what type of motor a 302 is, Travis

My 302 sure likes the higher RPMs. Ive run it in the mud drags and ended up having to go with an MSD igition so I could have a rev limiter after I watched the tach hit 8000 RPMs.
After rereading the first post I dont get this statement "Its got really high gears now since I put the 302 down in it". What does that mean? The gears dont change when you swap motors.
