You're gonna have to do something about the linkages. As you probably know, the 435 is all manual linkage, where as your current ZF5 is hydro. You might be able to rig up a mount to mount the slave on the trans to actuate the fork.

I have a ZF5 and a 435 sitting in my shop floor. I have to decide which one I want to put in my '88...

Well my reasoning behind the 4 speed ive heard its pretty bullet proof and with the low tranny gears i could run a more reasonable ring and pinion like a 456 or so for my inline 6 to turn them tires and i dont need overdrive but i need to remain daily driveable so i wanna stay away from a doubler plus i can get a 435 way cheaper and easier than a zf

Well i was countin on runnin 488s and im never fooled with doubled transfers just seems less user friendly on a dd also im plannin on doin a engine swap before too long and the little mazda 5 speed wont hold up to much power and id rather change bell housings on the 435 than a whole new zf

You won't be able to tell you have a doubler on the road. You leave both t-cases in 2-HI. A doubler is only there when you engage it...

83-87 4spd trucks used a hydro setup with an external slave and separate bell housing. My 86 Supercab has a T18 and the NP435 will bolt directly to that bell... So it shouldn't be too hard to swap.
