C6 trans vibration - need help

I have a vibration related to vehicle speed (it doesn't matter what gear I'm in, the vibration is always at 40mph). I've taken the drive shaft off, to see if the wheels, axles or drive shaft were the cause, but the vibration is still there. Based on this it seems to be coming from the transmission. any ideas?
I was assuming that the torque converter was ok, since the problem is speed related and not rpm related but not sure if that's true or not. I just had the trans rebuilt and that also had no effect on the vibration. Also replaced all motor and trans mounts. I'm wondering if I should swap in another trans, but was hoping someone with more trans knowledge might have a cheaper idea.

Have a two piece driveshaft? It could be the Drive Shaft Center Support. Bad U-Joints could be the cause, and a slip yoke that has been scored will not only cause a vibration, but a hum too.

Could also be that the drive shaft(s) have somehow become unbalanced....rare but it happens. Only other thing I can think about is the kickdown lever on the tranny could be engaing prematurely causing to act all funky.

I'm sure it's not the drive shaft, I had it balanced (twice) and then took it completely off and still had the vibration. but the kick down is a good idea. I'll try that one tonight.

thanks.

Have you checked the output shaft of the tranny for play side to side or up and down?Im not sure about ford but the chevy autos have a tailshaft bushing.

All the Cruise-O-Matics (FX, MX, FMX), C4's and C6's have one also. Here is the one for a C-6.

yea, there's not a lot of play, but I did swap in another yolk that seemed a bit tighter just to see if it would help, but it didn't help at all.
I think I may have to pull the trans. I'm thinking I should put in a new torque converter, and new output shaft and a different tailshaft housing (with a new bushing). figure if I'm pulling the trans, I might as well try everything I can think of while I'm in there.
