Exclamation 2007 F150 5.4 FFV Recall

Here is the first and hopefully the last recall. I took mine in today and they done it in less than 1 hour once they got started. The letter from Ford says that the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) may stop monitoring the Cats due to possability faulty software. So they reprogramed my PCM with the latest update from Ford and that was it. They say it has no effect on driveability or emissions and that it was a "voluntary" recall.

I tend to agree because my truck ran flawlessly before and after the recall. Oh well I thank them (Ford) for being so quick since I have only had the truck about 2 months. I do not have the recall number on me, it is in my truck outside, but if you need it I'll post it next time. Seems this applies to ONLY 2007 F150s with the 5.4 Flex Fuel Engine.

Ahh crud, my '07 is supposed to show up next week. Wonder if it will have the changes already or not.

I'd appreciate it if you could get the number when you get a chance.
Thanks

Just curious, when did you order your truck. I ordered mine almost 2 weeks ago, and I haven't heard a thing. Just wondering what kind of time I'm looking at.

OK here is the official information on the recall:

It is called Emission Recall 07E19

It is just a matter of recalibrating the PCM.

It was ordered around 1/18/07, and they were thinking 6 weeks best, 10 weeks worst sort of time frame. It will be just at 6 weeks if it hits the lot when they think it will. I'm betting it was assembled two weeks ago or more, and it's just playing the waiting game in the staging yards in Dearborn. I'm in CO, so your distance from your truck's assembly plant may or may not improve your lead time.

Ford had a VIN for your truck as soon as it was entered it into the production plan, so the dealer can get that for you if you wanted it.

I ordered mine in October 2006 and got it on December 20th and they did have the VIN when I asked for it. I ordered mine around that big Ford layoff last year and the holidays so yours might be faster. It was a great feeling though first vehicle I ever ordered all the others I just picked off the lot. I don't think I'll be picking off the lot ever again.

Does anyone know if this is for all 2007 5.4 FFV? A tried E85 a few tanks ago and since then my mpg has really dropped off. Before E85 I was getting around 14-15, with E85 I was getting around 10-11, and now a few tanks after E85 I am still around 11-12.

The reason you are getting worse MPG on E85 is because ethanol has less energy per gallon than Gasoline does.

This is taken directly from the EPA's website www.fueleconomy.gov for the 2007 F150 FFV. Notice how much lower the milage is for E85.

Fuel Type E85 Gasoline
MPG (city) 10 14
MPG (highway) 13 18
MPG (combined) 11 15

The trade off here is that E85 is cheaper, so it should cost about the same, or even a little bit more to run.

Thanks for your input, but I was talking about my gas mileage being off a few tanks after the E85. I knew that my mileage would be worse running it, but I didn't expect it to be worse a month later.

Hrmm...may be due to ethanol still in the tank after you filled it up with gasoline. Unless you run your truck completely dry, it'll still be in there. I would think after a few fill ups it would return to normal.

If not, I'd see a dealer

The recall is for all early 2007s 5.4 FFV. I am not sure what the cut off is, but mine was an early Dec 2006 build. I used the E85 (one tank full) and I did not like it, so I just ran the one. The price is really not that much cheaper than unleaded. It seems like they keep it a few cents cheaper on purpose just so folks will buy it.

It is not worth the trade off to me.

Well our 2006 F150 5.4L FFV has been getting about 13mpg on E85. With the price difference here, and with the truck getting 15mpg on gasoline, we come out ahead. Your mileage may vary.

Does anyone know how to check if there are TSBs or whatnot available for our trucks. This site doesn't seem to have them up for the 07 F150s.
