7.3 Heater Hose Advice

Hi all,

I am going to change out the radiator hoses on my 2002 F-250 with a 7.3 diesel. I have read many posts on how to get them off although I have not tried yet. My question is what to replace the old hoses with. I find hoses without the quick disconnects and have heard of folks just champing them to the heater core lines however this seems like a bad idea to me. Also have read stories of aftermarket quick disconnects not fitting right. Any advice on the best way to replace these hoses will be appreciated. Also if the recommended parts are Ford parts do you have the part numbers.

Thanks,

Kal

Use hose clamps and straight hoses. It's been done that way for who knows how long. Nothing wrong with it.

Dayco part numbers 87790 and 87791 are molded hoses and come with the quick connects.

Napa sells QD connectors that have hose barbs on one end so you can convert to hose clamps. That being said, I just bought OEM hoses from Ford and rented the tool from AutoZone for $20. I had to bend the tool slightly so it would fit up under the cowl but removal of the hoses was a piece of cake. Snapped the new ones in and kept the $20 tool. It is literally a 10 minute job with the tool. You could easily make your own tool with basic skills and a grinder/vise.

Thanks everyone!

I got my old hoses off tonight. Just used my fingers to push in the locks. Had to turn the hoses some to get the locks where I could squeeze them but other than laying on top of the engine it wasn't too bad. I will compare prices between Ford, the QD connectors and the Dayco and pick one. I was concerned because someone else reported they could not get the aftermarket quick connectors to work but it sounds like that is not a problem.

Thanks again.

I bought the Dayco with the QC's....go to RockAuto and compare pricing....the $ on the Motorcraft will scare you off.

Yes it DID scare me. Sent a shiver down me timbers!

But my question is? Are they exact fit? Is the click connector truly compatible?

They have a different clamp on from hose to the QC compared to the OEM, but the molded shape is right on. You can buy the molded hose, without the QC, purchase the QC's that have a barbed fitting and clamp them on....I guess. Or, just buy the molded hose and worm clamp them on....but, it's tight back there by the firewall. I'd recommend the QC's.

So you're saying buy 2 of these MOTORCRAFT KT83 3/4 straight quick connect: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...85478&jsn=9742

....and use hose clamps to attach to the preformed Gates hoses without the integral connects?

Ya see Im not a very smart person and so I misread your email. hahahah

I was under the impression you had disliked the quick connects on the Dayco but actually you didnt state that. I dont care how Dayco connects the QCs to the hose, as long as the QCs Dayco provides work like OEM.
