The biggest mod-motor issues I know of tend to be the coolant crossover on the intake manifold and on motors that have lived a hard life, valve springs get weak. The valve springs tend to fail only when they see a lot of high rpm abuse though. As for the manifold, if it has a metal crossover tube, you are good to go. If it is plastic, keep an eye on it as they sometimes develop cracks near the thermostat housing and require replacement.

So, are the heads still Aluminum, and should I have the same Spark Plug concerns or balancer key concerns?
I don't mean to be paranoid, but I spent too much money on this RV to spend more for break downs, IF I can prevent them.
I just came back from my first long trip, and it performed flawlessly, albeit 7 MPG.

Pre-PI is before the plug issues, PI didn't come out till 2000 in the vans, by then the plug issue was solved, kind of funny, vans being behind the trucks, saves them from the problems. The bad news is plug changes are near impossible, so taking them in is best to get it done right, but costs $325+. That fuel mileage don't sound right, you may be needing some service, like the throttle body injector cleaning, and fuel filter, check the air filter too.
