I have to agree with Barry on this one, pleeeeese keep your Ford a Ford. Whitewalls are a great idea, but keep the truck true blue (oval). There are IMHO too many Chevford hybrids out there and they are now just the usual. Keep it all Ford and make it a damn good one.

I also have a 49 F1 with a 226 six and have been thinking about a replacement engine. Not that I don't like the six, I really appreciate the simplicity and reliability of the engine. However, mine is getting a bit long in the tooth and rebuild parts for this engine are darned expensive and some not that easy to find. I think I found the perfect replacement this weekend. I'm now the proud owner of a 239 flat head eight. Reasonably priced and available parts, more then adequate power and in my humble opinion, just as sexy looking as a 350. This just isn't my Ford bias talking. I also own a restored 67 Chevy 1/2 ton. Hate me if you must but there both my favorite. I preferr a stock look but this is your truck. Do what makes you feel good. There is no other good reason to mess with these old darlings.

Well, I just had a look at the pics of your truck and i t seems to me that it is a very fine example. Why would you feel it won't stand up next to one with at chev mill. I personally feel that your truck has far more character, and i would be just as inclinde to look at it. I pressently have a 48 that i drive with the original flat V8 and a 51 that is getting an S10 chassie with a 350 and i think the 48 is a total hoot. Just drive and enjoy it as it is.

Do you want a bone stock rig or a hot rod/custom?
For a lot more go the 300 six is readily available and it has the torque to work the truck, tow a boat, etc.
Ive Fords in Fords in 3 of my toys, the next is going to be different. Im putting a 1953 Olds Rocket 303 in my 46 p/u but the guys on this forum cant complain since its 2 years too early for here
Its just my way of being true to nostalgia since I used to drool over the Olds and Caddy powered Fords when I was a kid.
Ive even got the 37 LaSalle floor box to go with it.
Anybody have a 3 carb Olds intake they care to sell?
