My method of removing carbon involves beating the heck out of the motor - instead of those "dump water slowing down the intake" methods. I am not a fan of removing carbon any other way except the old fashioned way: Take apart the motor.

mine still pings as well, I checked everything. Also, I cannot get rid of the P1000 code. Resetting the PCM, driving for 100s of miles, check the PCM and the code is still there. I too have re-programmed with the Superchip 1715 tuner. The funny thing is, my truck pinged on me the day I bought it and drove it home. Had only 44k miles on it, bone stock. Now with Airaid cold air intake, tuned with the 1715 for the tow program (running 91), now has 5.38 gears (needed for the 38"s I now have) and custom y-pipe, ping is about 50% less but it's still there. MAF has been cleaned 3 times now, it looks perfect everytime. Fuel filter is brand new. Knock sensor is original I think, guess I will replace that next. I would think I'd see a code if the sensor was bad.

This is the difference between OBD-I (heavy-duty truck engine) and OBD-II.
The OBD-I will never set a code for certain sensors that are out-of-range, or further out of range than they should be
ALSO, the P1000 code may come up on the OBD-I systems and it really doesn't mean anything. My '01 does it - nothing wrong, all tests/monitors are OK (at least, the ones it actually bothers about) but still has that P1000 code in it. I think it's a software bug, either with the PCM itself, or my scantool (autotap).
I am wondering if you should go to the dealer and see if there are any newer "calibrations" (software) for your specific computer/engine combo.
And one thing I gotta ask AGAIN: Did you try running 93 octane and does the ping lessen or go away?

I run 91 only. I would be afraid (very afriad) to run 87 or 89 with the programmer tune in it. But the ping does decrease with the 91 it seems. Haven't really messed with putting it back to stock flash and running 91. By the way, my 2001 motorhome w/V10 also pings... it's totally stock and I am running 87 in it like it says to
