The front valance on my truck is trashed, so I was going to use the one from the parts truck. Question is, what are the extra holes in the top of it for?
Jeff, just a guess but those holes could of been put there for some kind of light system. they don't look familiar but i'm no expert, but if it fits your truck, i say weld them up and put it on.
On the 54 the grille holes are directly above the frame cutouts and D shaped with the curved part to the front. At least that's how it looks in the Mid-Fifty catalog.

Reason: addition
I have seen a lot of them like that. I have one and thats for the plow frame, check
with a sharp eye for welds and extra drilled holes. Its definately not a 54, those
hole are slightly inboard of the frame.
I never thought about a plow frame.(always been a southern boy, so have seen little snow) Was wondering though if Ford offered a factory brush guard or bull bar back then. Thanks big job, my curiosity is finally answered.
This brings up an interesting point, I have a 54 but got a 53 valence with the pile of parts when I bought it...can I cut out the holes for the 54 grille into the 53 valence or is there more to it?
