thrush glasspacks anygood?
hey guys not exactly a ford question but i want to change exhaust on my dads 96 chevy 1500 and figured this would be the best place to get it answered. here we go. dual 2 inch pipes going into muffler coming out as 3 inch single tailpipe. i want to put in a y pipe off of the dual 2 inch pipes into a 3inch thrush glasspack then out through stock tailpipe. do you think that will flow good? where can i find a thrush in 3 inch for little money? i am looking for a smooth sounding medium loudness exhaust. my friend has same truck with 2 inch thrush glasspacks with dual exhaust and i love how it sounds will this setup sound the same? is other glasspacks any good like summit? thanks guys

Yes as said you can get them at Autozone, perhaps O'Reilly's, or any muffler shop. They're pretty cheap.
For a rumble, the best way I could think of would be to Y the two pipes into one, have a section of pipe, run a longer glasspack (they come in different sizes) back so it's at least under the bed, then dump it with a turndown.

well i have 2 2inch pipes coming already. so i was thinking 2 glasspacks like 18 inch long and have them shoot out the back . these muffler are right underneath the gap between the box and cab so i think that will be fine if i angle them right. but will that cause other problem besides exhaust coming up into cab? i am trying to stay cheap. exhaust shop would build y pipe into one for 50 bucks. my tailpipe is 3 inch so a glasspack that big would be like 65 which i think is too much money

One muffler will not sound as good as your friends truck. For cheap, use the Autozone Cherry Bomb. About 20 bucks in this area. I don't understand the 3" tailpipe, but most glasspacks don't get quite that large. I suppose you could order one, but most are 2.5". You can always adapt up to the pipe. I personally don't like the sound of "out of the muffler down pipes." You need a little length on the pipe to get a decent tone. A side pipe would sound better to me. jd

My '75 F-250 SC has dual exhaust (FlowMaster long-tube - X-pipe) and 33" Thrush glas-paks and 2'x4" tips. Deep and fairly quiet. Noticeable but not loud with 2 1/2 pipe.
To each their own. The X-pipe smoothes the sound and the larger pipe deepens it. The large tips seem to give it a slightly hollow sound - if that makes sence.
