Long Thrush glasspacks vs. Magnaflow ovals

I know this seems to have been beaten to death , but I am looking for information or opinions on specific length mufflers / glasspacks.

I am getting closer to doing the exhaust on my truck. In the past I have run glasspacks on a couple trucks and have liked them for the most part. My only real complaint is the raspy popping sound they make and I think that was just because I just ran the shorter ones with small diameter exhaust tubing.

I am thing ing about doing a 2-1/2" exhaust system and trying the Thrush #24213, which has a 40" long case. These are much longer than any others I have ran and I think they will give me the sound I am looking for.

My second (and third) choices would be running the 14" or 18" long Magnaflow ovals.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with these long glasspacks or Magnaflows behing a fairly stock 360?

You got a welder and a chop saw? Make your own. All they are is tube inside a tube wrapped in fiberglass and steel wool.

I just put a 2 1/2 inch exhaust system on my 77'. I used a 14" x 7" round magnaflow muffler. They are fairly docile at idle or cruising speeds but rumble like a truck should when you get in the gas a little. The part # was 14716. They only come polished so they look great from behind the truck. I think I got them from Amazon for about $85 each. I only have a 302 so I bet they would sound even better on your truck.

The last thing you want is a truck that sounds like a 5.0L Mustang. Trucks should sound like trucks.

I have 12in glass packs on my truck runnen true dual. Sounds like a truck should. But i also have a built 302 you might not get the same sound out of yours if your still runnen a y-pipe and a stock cam.

Thanks, sounds like the 5x8x14 Ovals should be real close to the same sound and they are a bit more inexpensive. I think I will give them a try.

I definately want it to sound like a truck, not a 5.0 Mustang. Granted, the Mustangs sound good, but not for a truck. The engine is fairly stock, but I will be running dual exhaust off the stock manifolds. I have listened to hours worth of exhaust on youtube, but it is never the same thing as hearing it in person.

Thanks for all the imput.

YouTube - magnaflow soundcheck on 5.9l V8 F250

This is a 1975 Ford 360FE with a 6" round 27" long Magnaflow, most likely single exhaust. This one is a bit more subdued than what I am looking for.

It's a bit harder than one might think to come up with good exhaust sound clips for a Ford 360FE. Plenty of 390, 302 and 460 clips, but not as many for the 360's.

EDIT - I just ordered 2 Magnaflow 14" long oval mufflers. I'll give these a try and if I need to I can always go a longer muffler real easily if needed. It will be a couple months, but I'll post a sound clip when it's done.

the magnaflows sounded to generic on the van. I'm a big fan of cherry bombs glass packs the have a good deep sound at idle and high rpm. And wont give u that gay *** straight pipe sound. lol
