66 460/C6 question

I was hoping someone could help me.
Im going to be installing a 460 into my 66 soon.
I have a C6 on my 390 at the current time. I was wondering if it's possible to get that C6 to bolt up to a 460.
If not, I need to find a C6 for a 460. Im not sure what transmission is behind the 460 at the junkyard, but it's in a old car (possibly torino or something, I forgot what it was honestly. Its been a while)
If it's not a C6, what year truck/car would you suggest looking for to get a C6.
Thanks in advance.

66 460/C6 question

I don't think there would be many, if any cars at all. Any 3/4 ton trucks and vans and a very small percentage of 1/2 ton trucks and vans 460 equipped from about 75 to 86 should have your C6. Watch out for the 4x4's because they had C6's but I believe they had the married transfer cases on their C6's, which could take some researching to see if they would work.(Detach tranfer case) If you have any specialty ford truck salvage yards in your area, you might try them!

66 460/C6 question

Andy, No It will not. There are three bell patterns, the FE which has a rounded top, (in there now), the small block that has a flat top and a 5 1/2" bolt spread across the top. This fits 240/300 I6, 289, 302, 351W, 351C, The third has a flat top with about an 8" bolt hole spread, and is used with 351/400M 429, and the 460.

A C6 is a C6 is a C6, but the cases only mate to certain engines. It is my understandinf you can swap the guts from one case to the other. Good luck on the swap.

66 460/C6 question

Thanks.
I didn't figure it'd fit, as I have asked around here, but I wanted to ask on here. You can swap C6 to C6 no matter what case tho (as I have done this.)
Maybe I'll find a C6 for a 460 then
I know where one is, but you know how people are... they have absolutely no ford cars or parts other than this transmission, but they don't want to get rit of it
