68/69 Ranger info......
Any one help me on info on 68/69 ranger info, this was the option on the full size pick-up and it had chrome trim, better door panels and seat trim and more outside chrome. It also had a badge on the bed that said RANGER in script. My uncle had a '68, and I would like to know if any are for sale or where to look on the 'net for info.Note...if memory serves me , unc's 68 had a 390 cid on a f-100 frame, no pwr discs and three on the tree shifting---- it was red with a black interior, am radio and he threw out the fact. full hub caps and put cragers on it...this truck waspowerful and I think he put an aftermarket 4 bbl manifold on it.I would like to duplicate this truck and everbody I talk to says the ranger was a seperate mini truck ford made starting in '82Many heated bar discussions have ended in a few words, but can anybody put me in the right direction?UNCLE WAS AHEAD OF HIS TIME WITH THIS OPTIONED OUT RANGER 390 AND AS A TRIBUTE TO HIM AND OUR FAMILY I WANT TO DUPLICATE IT OR FIND ONE CLOSE TO IT....

Sarge, I hope that you win some bets. 1965 was the first year that Ford introduced the ranger option package. The truck had fender emblems, full carpet, a console, bucket seats, and a fiberglass gas tank cover. The first Ranger was a trim package, then XLT which is still available today. The Ranger as we know today replaced the Courier that was a Masda B2000 with Ford lettering instead of Masdas

I have a 71 f-100 ranger that I bought new. It has a 390, 4 barrel, automatic, air conditioning. There were rangers and ranger xlt's.The xlt had carpet and the chrome trim had woodgrain inserts. They both came with cloth seat and door panels. It is original and sitting in my driveway if I can help with any questions. I have tons of books also.
PS The 67 thru 72's are the same, except for grills etc.

68/69 Ranger info......
Yeah, thanks for the info. I'm looking for a68-69 though, and 390 with 3 speed. I think it would be a hassle to convert a auto over, though maybe a 4 speed could bolt back of the 390? I search the 'net, but didn't find rangers, just plain pick-ups of that era. Alot of them are survivors of the city/state fleets, for the real gussied up ones were either drove and worn out or were scrapped in the 70's gas crisis.would even entertain a 302 ranger to swap motors in..Any place out west that deals in trucks of this era?thanks....

I just bought a '71 F-350 truck. It's a Ranger XLT and has all the trim as discussed above. It originally had a 390 and C6 but that engine went bad and I bought it and am installing a 400M and C6.
I bought it through a classified ad in the Sacramento Bee. Their website is www.sacbee.com and they have their entire classified ad section on their web site. They update the classifieds daily. I live in Northern California so i didn't have to drive too far to get the truck and tow it home.
The owner was trying to install a 460 & C6 but lost interest. I got the truck with the 460 & C6 for $1,300. It is a California truck and has no rust on it. It's odometer reads 97,000 miles and it's in such good shape they could be original miles. Even if it has 197,000 miles on it, the truck is in such good shape I don't care. I'm having fun converting the engine and hope to be driving it within 2-3 weeks.
I've been to a few wrecking yards in the Sacramento area since I bought the truck a month ago and found several donor trucks from the late '60s to mid '70s era. Many of them still have most or all of their engines/trans available for picking. I found a few FE motors and some 351/400M engines as well. If you find a good '68 truck but need a 390, the wrecking yards still have some.
Good hunting!!!
