Question about the 10.5" axle in my 2000 Excursion.
I need to re-set the pinion preload on a 10.5" axle in my 2000 V10, 4x4 Excursion

I would like to know if there is a basic specification for the pinion nut torque to start with. I can't seem to find such a specification in the Ford shop manual for this vehicle. The manual only states what the free rotation torque should be (20lb/ft) after a new pinion is installed.

Also, can some one tell me if the pinion preload crush sleeve is removable from the out side of the axle housing or do I need to remove the whole pinion from the inside to replace the crush sleeve?
Thanx, KO.
