dashes in Odometer when off/crank but won't start

Has anyone else experienced the dots across the odometer that won't cut off when truck is off. My truck also will crank but not catch. It seems like there is some residual power because one of my relays stays closed after I cut truck off(checked relays on bench, work fine). When I take battery terminal off I can hear the relay open and the dots/dashes in odometer go away. I thought it might have something to do with anti-theft. I don't have any water leaks, and it happens whenever. Help???

Hello and welcome to the 4.2 forum!

You know, I have never heard of the problem you are having. I'll bet someone knows what is wrong, but that someone isn't me! Also, I doubt the problem is just related to your truck being a 4.2.

You might want to try asking over in the Electrical Systems/Wiring forum:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/f...splay.php?f=62

Maybe somebody there will know.

Thanks and best of luck!

Often a symptom of PCM power relay inop or PCM fried if you are positive there are no water leaks.

Thanks for the response. I will look into that. WHere might water be leaking too, if it was in fact leaking. I just want to make sure I am not missing something.
